ESL 143 - Writing and Grammar 4 Credit(s): 6 6 lecture hours Students will write controlled, focused essays using appropriate composition strategies and critical thinking skills. Students’ writing will reflect different sentence types (simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex) and structures, correct verb tenses (present and past perfect), and other grammatical forms, including dependent clauses, past modals, untrue conditionals, gerunds and infinitives, and phrasal verbs. In addition, students will use MLA formatting and citation, note taking, written communication, and time management as well as understand parts of identity, culture, and diversity.
Prerequisite(s): ESL 31 and ESL 169, both with a grade of C- or higher; or ESL 133 with a grade of C- or higher; or adequate test score on the English Placement Examination
