PROGRAM OVERVIEW
This program is designed to provide training for students who wish to work in the field of music technology or to learn aspects of music technology to enhance their own work as a performing musician, educator, or music therapist. The certificate may be used by those students who would like to augment any degree program at the college with serious study in music technology, or simply to improve these skills for personal enrichment.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:
- identify fundamental parameters of sound
- use and understand correct terminology for instruments, recording software and hardware, and be able to manipulate these
- explain sound wave behavior
- explain frequency range and its relationship to timbre
- identify the nature of the music to be recorded, and understand the best way to sequence the necessary steps
- organize, produce, and engineer a recording session, and archive the process
- choose appropriate microphones for every instrument, microphone placement, and how to baffle in a live room situation
- apply appropriate sound treatment through room treatment, plugins or effects
- mix a variety of tracks to optimize sound quality and detailed articulation of each instrument
- master the final mix to make it “radio ready”
- set up instruments, microphones, amps, cables, etc., and mix for a live performance
- understand basic principles of songwriting/arranging
- demonstrate knowledge of music fundamentals, basic skills in piano, singing, individual performance on an instrument/voice
