In Borderlands/La Frontera, Chicana writer Gloria Anzaldùa asserts that nothing can change in the real world unless it first changes in the images in our head. US Latinx authors have created powerful images that have changed the literary and cultural landscape of the United States. This course will introduce students to Latino/a literature and will provide an overview of Puerto Rican, Dominican, Mexican-American, Chicanx, and other Latinx literature, such as the writing of the borderlands and the intentional use of bilingualism. This course will also examine folklore, social issues, and identity development. Students will read fiction, non-fiction, poetry, drama, testimonio, and folk song lyrics. Taught in English. Same as LAX 208
