ART 147(C) - Women and Art Credit(s): 3 MassTransfer Block Code: Humanities/Fine and Performing Arts A survey of women’s contributions to the visual arts, from antiquity to the present. Examines women as producers, buyers, and subjects of art, and how these roles have been shaped by prevailing ideas about women and gender. Challenges traditional definitions of art and artists. Considers restrictions and prejudices confronted by women, and women’s triumphs in the face of social, political and economic barriers.
